Hello Joanne! I'm so glad you stumbled across our little backyard in the blogosphere! I'll email you, for sure, cos there's alot i *don't* know about herdshare and so on, and am just a newbie to the raw dairy movement - kind of (daughter of a farmer so grew up on a pretty self sufficient property, plenty of raw dairy in this formative grrl's diet!) ... I'll put you on our blog links, cos we like your magazine... IN terms of someone to share the milk out, I'm not sure exactly what that entails, but I'd love to know more details... we've registered our interest in the herdshare via the website... I'd love to know more, and i'd be keen to contribute to your magazine too, if you like my writing and it seems appropriate... Thanks for your interest! Virginia

Hi Chaz and Virginia. Boy am I glad to have found this lovely piece of the blogsphere. I think I'm addicted to your blog already. Yes there is a herdshare happening soon. We're just working on the contracts now. The farmer's market at Bangalow and Byron will be a pick up point but we're still looking for a person to share the milk out. Any ideas? BTW your dairy farmer sounds precious. Maybe he'd like to sell some cows for the Lismore herdshare. If you want to register your interest in the herdshare, sign up to the newsletter at herdshare.com. Also, you can drop me a line anytime. I'm obsessed with raw dairy herdshares leading the way in community supported agriculture in our region.

Blessings

it's true, they would be easy to make, and indeed i found some for sale at a homewares shop today (they were quite small and apparently used to make gnocchi also (better that the rolling on a fork method, methinks...) but they were just made of offcuts and looked so unappealing... i'm a bit sentimental about the scotch hands my mum used to use - artisan crafted, Amish style... so i passed up the homewares version...

the tashi house is most excellent. i'm not sure that tashi regards it as a step up from the verandah (which is undoubtedly is, it's a veritable mansion), however, she spends most of her days in it lately, since we are still in the grip of the freakiest amount of water falling from the sky that i have ever experienced... it suits her, but she still loves the copper mountain, so i had to move it close to her home...

Ali, the yoghurt was strange, and clearly didn't happen the way it was meant to happen, but i figured it was good anyway, and used it in smoothies and on food. The texture was not what I'm used to. I shall try again soon... and we have butter often now. I make it every couple of days... i'm tracking down equipment as you have no doubt seen... will report on progress!

The dairy photos and descriptions are mouthwatering. I've never had anything to do with milk, direct from cow. It's a material I am completely unfamiliar with. It looks lush & lovely to play with, I want to dip my fingers into the newly-churned butter to see if it tastes as good as it looks. Hope your recipe-investigation is progressing nicely. How did the yoghurt turn out?
